CNOA WINS POST AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TRAINING
Valencia, CA – The California Narcotic Officers’ Association (CNOA) was awarded the
2010 Peace Officer Standards in Training (POST) Excellence in Training award in the
Organizational Achievement category on February 24, 2011.
The POST Excellence in Training Award was established in 1994 to encourage
innovation, quality, and effectiveness of peace officer training in order to recognize
outstanding law enforcement trainers. Each year, the Commission recognizes two
individuals and one organization who have greatly contributed to the success and
effectiveness of the law enforcement community.
This year, out of 25 nominees, CNOA was selected through a rigorous screening
process conducted by a 16-member POST Advisory Committee and approved by the
Commission. CNOA was honored for its continued commitment to law enforcement
training. CNOA currently offers 43 POST-certified courses and has provided over 1,400
classes of various subjects for more than 110,000 officers, equating to a total of 1.5
million training hours. CNOA has had statewide and national impact through its
offerings of unique, specialized law enforcement training.
The Association is also being recognized for its charity foundation, the Survivors’
Memorial Fund. In 1994, CNOA established the Survivors’ Memorial Fund (SMF),
designed to provide immediate financial assistance to families of peace officers killed in
the line of duty in California. Since its inception, the Fund has assisted more than 180
families in their time of need.
CNOA manages the Narcotic Educational Foundation of America (NEFA), a non-profit
outreach program that provides no-cost training materials and instructors to community
groups, schools, and partners in anti-drug organizations. Over the past 46 years,
CNOA has become well respected and recognized as one of the nation’s leading law
enforcement training associations.
CNOA will be honored with a prestigious trophy at the POST Commission Meeting on
Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Doubletree hotel in Sacramento. In addition, CNOA
will have its name inscribed on a plaque permanently located at POST headquarters in
Sacramento.
